I took this photo of Louie right before we were going to leave for a "dog show" - agility trial. He was so excited to go that he didn't want to "stay" for a picture. I was able to get this quick one before he raced for the door.
He qualified that weekend - was 20 seconds under course time. Not bad for a dog who is almost thirteen years old.
A group of us went to Chicago for the International Kennel Club's annual AKC dog show. The show includes conformation, obedience, and rally (and VENDORS!). They used to also offer agility; I showed Louie there several years ago. I have to admit ... this particular show is much more fun to go there as a spectator rather than an exhibitor. (Lots of walking involved to get to the show area. I'd hate to tote all of my show stuff around there.)
This is Chase. If he looks familiar, you may have seen him before ... he won Best of Breed at Westminster recently (and was on TV for the group judging.) Chase belongs to a friend of mine.
One of the questions I heard a few times as Chase was waiting in the grooming area for his show time, was "Is that a real dog?"
Back from two days of agility with Teddy - he qualified in three of his four runs, earning "double Q" number 12! One thing we have to work on is his contact performance ... we need to SPEED IT UP! We don't have another agility trial until August, so we have July to train, train, and train some more!
Teddy poses for a quick picture before we go outside.
Teddy and I competed last weekend at an agility trial in Naperville, IL. He did very well and qualified on all four of his runs, earning "double Q's" #10 and #11.
Standard wasn't our thing this weekend ... but Jumpers with Weaves definitely was! Teddy qualified both days in jumpers and earned NINE points on each run (for us, that's a LOT!) Standard on Saturday ended pretty quickly - Teddy missed the dogwalk contact, so I stopped the run. Sunday, first obstacle was the tire and he went UNDER it (how, I don't know). Hit the contacts ... slowly, but he did them. I know what we need to work on for the next few weeks, so we'll be ready for the Shih Tzu national.
Saturday Jumpers with Weaves
Sunday Jumpers with Weaves (I missed the walk thru on this one, so qualifying and earning nine points is even more amazing to me!)
Fun day at the agility trial today! Teddy qualified in jumpers with weaves, but missed his dogwalk contact in standard, which prompted me to pull him from the rest of the course.
Tonight, we are scrapbooking with a friend at an Archivers up here. I am going to work on my Scrapbook on the Road project for our trip next month to the Shih Tzu specialty in Atlanta.
Annie had a great day yesterday at the TDAA agility trial. She ran twice in Superior Standard and Q'ed once. Missed the weave pole entrance on the second run, but so did several other dogs.
Today I filled out entries for Louie and Teddy for a day of AKC agility in Lake St. Louis next month. Louie is going to try novice preferred for a while...just until AKC decides to approve their rule revisions (specifically, the proposed changes for the lower A-frame height and proposed "any position" table. Guess I need to do some TRAINING to get them ready! Hopefully, the spring weather will help motivate me.
